If you’re coming to Ligüerre with some time before or after our wedding, we highly recommend taking the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Ligüerre is perfectly located in the heart of the Aragonese Pyrenees, making it an ideal base to discover charming mountain villages, stunning natural landscapes, and some of the most beautiful corners of northern Spain. Nearby, you’ll find picturesque villages such as Torla-Ordesa, the gateway to Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, where dramatic valleys, waterfalls, and hiking trails offer unforgettable scenery. The region is full of small stone towns, historic bridges, Romanesque churches, and viewpoints that showcase the authentic character of the Pyrenees.

Whether you’re looking for relaxed strolls, scenic drives, cultural visits, or outdoor adventures, there are plenty of wonderful places to explore at your own pace. That said, the closest villages, and the ones you absolutely shouldn’t miss, are:

  • Distance: Approx. 38 km from Liguerre de Cinca (about a 35-40 minute drive).

  • What to see: A fair-sized town with a beautiful historic center, the Cathedral of the Assumption, and a renowned wine region (Somontano).

  • Why go: Ideal for a half-day trip if you are looking for something different from the rural countryside.

  • Recommended Restaurants:

    • La Esquineta (Calle Monzón)

  • Distance: Approx. 22 km from Liguerre de Cinca.

Hiking Around Ligüerre

or those wanting to make the most of the weekend by exploring the natural beauty of the Aragonese Pyrenees, Ligüerre de Cinca is the perfect starting point for several hiking routes. From simple walks to slightly more demanding excursions, there are options for everyone.

 

What to bring: We recommend wearing comfortable footwear suitable for mountain walking. Also, bring water and some warm layers, the weather in the Pyrenees can change quickly!

Recommended Nearby Routes:

​

1. El Congosto de El Entremón (Mediano - Ligüerre)

​​

  • Description: This is one of the most iconic routes in the area. It is a circular path that runs along the impressive Cinca River gorge between Mediano and Ligüerre. Part of the path is carved directly into the rock, offering spectacular views.

​

  • Difficulty: Moderate. There are some tricky sections, such as "Las Escaleras" (The Stairs), which require caution, especially if you do not have mountain experience or suffer from vertigo/fear of heights.

​

  • Duration: Approximately 4 hours (7 km).

​

  • Highlights: Panoramic views of the Mediano reservoir, the "Paso de la Caña" carved into the rock, and the stunning beauty of the gorge itself.

2. GR 1 - Historic Trail (Stage 31: Tierrantona - Mesón de Ligüerre)

​

  • Description: Ligüerre de Cinca is part of a stage on this "Grand Randonnée" (Long Distance Trail). This route combines history, nature, and landscapes, passing through old abandoned villages and offering spectacular sections like the Entremón gorge.

​

  • Difficulty: Moderate.

​

  • Duration: Depends on the section you choose, but the full stage is about 6 hours.

​

  • Highlights: The monumental complex of Muro de Roda, the abandoned village of El Pamporciello, and the Entremón gorge.

​

3. Easy Walks Around Ligüerre

​

  • Description: If you are looking for something quieter, the immediate surroundings of Ligüerre offer rural paths and tracks perfect for a relaxed stroll. You can explore around the village, enjoy views of the reservoir, or simply take a walk through the nearby fields.

  • Difficulty: Easy.

​

  • Duration: Flexible (from 1 hour onwards).
